The Function of Brake Pads

Each time that you apply the brakes on your vehicle several different parts of the braking system come into use allowing you to stop safely. The rotor spins around with the wheel. When you press the brake pedal, the brake calipers press into the rotors to stop the vehicle. The brake pads are connected to the calipers.

The brake calipers are made out of metal. Without the brake pads being on the calipers, the metal to metal contact would quickly damage the braking system. The friction would be too great. The brake pads allow for a smooth and quiet stop. Over time, the material in the brake pads wears down, and the brake pads need to be replaced. Your vehicle's manufacturer will have recommendations for when this needs to be done.

When it is time for new brakes on your vehicle, contact Sheehy Volkswagen of Springfield. They can provide pads and other brake services.
